When I started working full time 6 years ago, I would get to work about 15 minutes early and read the newspaper at my desk. That habit stopped when I got promoted and had to be at work an hour earlier than before, because I’m super lazy and can’t get to work any earlier than right on time (and to do actual work, not flip through the Times).
That’s why the ‘In the Papers’ segment on NY1 is a godsend. In 8 minutes the anchor reads through all the important stories from a whole bunch of newspapers. I’ve been taping it every morning and and I’d watch it when I’d get home from work, but now I can get my newspaper fix from my computer during my lunch hour. Very nice.
On a personal note: There’s a reason I named my blog ”I Love Pat Kiernan,” and it’s not because I’m some crazy fan. When I lived alone for the first time, I had a little trouble adjusting to being by myself, especially in the morning. I guess listening to the news while getting ready was like having someone else in the apartment with me, keeping me company and letting me know if alternate side parking was suspended. Since I’d always watch channel 1, and Pat Kiernan is the morning anchor on channel 1, I came to think of him as my morning buddy.
So I really like Pat Kiernan, but only as a friend, and “I Really Like Pat Kiernan But Only As A Friend” is too long a title.
